Berber tent for a wedding: sizes, prices and advice

A Berber tent is a nomadic stretch tent: allow 1.2 m² per guest for a seated meal at round tables, 1.5 m² with a dance floor, and €17 to €22 excl. VAT per m² for the structure.

“Berber tent”, “nomad tent” and “stretch tent” name the same family of products: elastic fabric tensioned over adjustable poles, drawing curves rather than angles. For a wedding, the right question is not the name but the size, the site and the budget.

For 100 guests, allow 120 m² with round tables and 150 m² with a dance floor, according to the site's sizing grid. The stretch range runs from 36 m² to 300 m², so a 10×15 m tent (150 m²) fits this case.

On budget, the site's price grid puts the nomadic stretch tent between €17 and €22 excl. VAT per m². That figure covers the structure alone: flooring, lighting, heating and furniture are quoted separately. A wedding is planned early: this article gives the sizes, the ground footprint needed, a budget calculation and the points to check before booking (information current as of 19 October 2026).

Berber, nomad or stretch tent: one family

According to the site's product page, the stretch tent is a structure made of bi-elastic polyester fabric tensioned over adjustable poles. “Berber tent” refers to the inspiration of the nomadic tents of the Maghreb, with curved shapes and a sense of travel; “stretch” describes the technique. When you compare quotes, check the product rather than the name: a Berber tent and a nomadic stretch tent are, most often, the same thing.

For a comparison with the marquee and the aluminium structure, read the article on choosing between a stretch tent, a marquee and an aluminium structure.

Why couples choose it

The stretch tent follows uneven ground thanks to its many anchor points and its elastic fabric. That is an advantage for a wedding in a garden, a meadow or an orchard where the ground is not perfectly flat.

Its organic shape suits natural decoration: wood, rugs, cushions, seasonal flowers. It also fits a venue where you do not want a rectangular structure that dominates the setting.

Which size for how many guests

Size is worked out from the most demanding format of the day, not the ceremony alone. The site uses 0.65 m² per guest for a ceremony with chairs side by side, 0.75 m² for a standing cocktail, 1 m² for a seated meal at rectangular tables, 1.2 m² with round tables and 1.5 m² with a dance floor.

Example: for 80 guests seated at round tables with a dance floor, allow 120 m². A 10×15 m stretch tent (150 m²) holds 100 guests in that layout, and a 10×10 m (100 m²) holds 66. If the meal and the dancing share the same tent, use the “meal + dance floor” column of the table.

If you plan a drinks reception, a meal and a dance party, ask the hire company whether one tent is enough or whether it is better to separate the spaces.

Planning the ground footprint

A stretch tent is tensioned from its points with pegging all around. The site's grid allows 1.50 m of pegging from the edge of the fabric, which is not the nominal size: a 10×15 m tent projects onto the ground as 9.80 × 15.40 m. The ground needed is therefore larger than the tent: 13 × 18 m for a 10×15 m.

Measure the site, note the trees, overhead lines, slope and truck access, then send this information to the hire company. The technical visit confirms the layout before the date.

The structure budget, then the options

According to the site's price grid, the nomadic stretch tent costs €17 to €22 excl. VAT per m². The second table applies that range to four sizes: for example, a 10×15 m stretch tent (150 m²) comes to €2,550 to €3,300 excl. VAT for the structure alone. VAT is added to the price before tax.

This calculation is not a quote. The actual price depends on the date, access, ground and options: flooring, lighting, heating, furniture. To compare two proposals, check that they describe the same services. The article on comparing quotes gives a reading grid.

Flooring, lighting, heating and decoration

These items weigh on comfort as much as on the budget, and they are decided at the same time as the size of the tent. Each has its own detailed article.

For an autumn or winter wedding, bring heating into the discussion from the first quote request.

  • Flooring: grass, floor or dance floor, depending on the expected weather and the type of shoes (article on flooring and ground).
  • Lighting: string lights, pendants or spotlights, and the power supply available (articles on lighting and electricity).
  • Heating: to plan for a cool evening, with the hire company's safety instructions.
  • Decoration: rugs, cushions, wood and flowers for the nomadic feel, to be checked with the hire company so the poles are not overloaded (article on layout and decoration).

Wind, rain and weather warnings

A tent is prepared for the weather of the day. Météo-France distinguishes four warning levels: green means no particular danger, yellow asks you to be attentive, orange to be very vigilant and red requires absolute vigilance. The criteria are defined for each phenomenon and each département.

Check the warning map in the days before the wedding and agree with the hire company on the decision to take in case of wind or storm: who decides, when, and where to take shelter. The article on wind and storms on the day sets out this organisation.

Composing the day under the tent

Many weddings run a ceremony, a drinks reception, a meal and an evening party in sequence. Under a single tent, each stage needs a different layout: chairs in rows for the ceremony, tables for the meal, open space for dancing. Each change of layout takes time and hands, which you plan with the caterer and the hire company.

The capacity table helps you decide. A 10×10 m tent (100 m²) holds 66 guests with a dance floor, but 133 for a standing cocktail: if your drinks reception gathers more guests than the meal, it may be what sets the size. Conversely, a tent too big for a small party makes for an echoing evening and costs more.

The sizes in the range are modules: 36, 50, 60, 72, 75, 79, 100, 150, 157, 200, 250 and 300 m². If your numbers fall between two sizes, the larger gives more comfort and the smaller needs a tighter seating plan. Discuss it with the hire company, which knows the constraints of the site.

Questions to ask before signing

A Berber tent quote is compared on precise points. Ask these questions to each hire company, and keep the answers in writing to compare them.

Also ask about the cancellation and postponement terms in case of bad weather.

  • What exact tent size, and what capacity in each layout of the day?
  • What ground footprint, pegging included, and what truck access?
  • What does the structure price include, and which options are charged separately: flooring, lighting, heating, furniture?
  • What technical visit before the date, and what information about the site must you provide?
  • What procedure in case of wind or storm, and who decides on the day?
  • What rules for decoration hung from the poles or the fabric?

Private land: the paperwork

For a tent set up on your own land, Service-public states that a temporary installation of up to three months (fifteen days in some protected areas) needs no formalities. The local urban plan may still set rules: ask your town hall's planning department.

If the tent receives the public or the venue is a public-access building, other rules apply. The town hall, the prefecture or the safety commission decide depending on the situation: the article on marquee permits explains the process.

The two terms most often name the same family of products: a reception tent in elastic fabric tensioned over adjustable poles, with several anchor points. “Berber” evokes the inspiration of the nomadic tents of the Maghreb, “stretch” the technique. Check the product description in the quote.
