Structure & materials
What you need to know about your tipi de réception
The reception tipi — also called a Nordic tipi or giant kata — is a contemporary reinterpretation of the Native American tipi, sized to host events of 40 to 200 people. Its distinctive conical silhouette, with its top opening (smoke vent) and wooden poles rising above the ridge, immediately creates a bohemian, Nordic and warm atmosphere — a visual signature recognisable above all others in wedding photos and festival videos. It is available in single (50 m²), double (100 m²) or triple (150 m²) sizes and can be adapted to the capacity or combined into a village of several tipis. In high demand for country weddings, premium music festivals and wellness retreats, the reception tipi combines visual cachet, authentic materials (wooden poles, canvas) and flexibility of siting. The cost of hiring a reception tipi depends on the number of tipis, the size, the options (flooring, heating, ethnic furniture), the duration and the service area. As a guide, the ranges seen in 2026 run from €2,000 to €4,000 excl. VAT for a single tipi (40-60 guests) to €6,000-10,000 excl. VAT for a double-triple size or a village of several tipis (100-150 guests).
Materials & construction
- Polyester or natural canvas, water-repellent and fire-retardant treated
- Natural pine or spruce poles: 8 to 14 m long
- Top opening (smoke vent): adjustable natural ventilation
- Beaten-earth floor or floating flooring as an option
- Options: string lights, decorative stove, rugs, cushions
For which event?
Bohemian & nature wedding
The tipi is the go-to structure for bohemian, nomadic and nature weddings. Its wooden poles, natural canvas and opening onto the sky create an atmosphere that neither a marquee nor a reception hall can reproduce.
Festival & retreat
For music festivals, wellness retreats or spiritual events, the tipi creates a premium camp atmosphere. Several linked tipis form a temporary village with living, dining and ceremony areas.
Cosy party & banquet
With heated flooring and string lighting, the tipi turns into an intimate dining space. The raw wooden table, candles and dried flowers complete the expected atmosphere.
Nature & outdoor event
Yoga retreat, open-air coaching, guided bivouac: the tipi is both functional (protection from the rain) and symbolic (connection to nature) — a rare combination among event structures.
What to plan for
- Ground: grass or earth. The tipi cannot be set up on tarmac or concrete without specific floating flooring.
- Space required: ground diameter + 3 m of clearance around the tipi. A clear circular space is essential.
- Setup time: 3 h (single size) to 1 day (triple size or village).
- Smoke vent: the top opening is natural ventilation, not a sealed opening. In heavy rain, specific protection is needed.
- Heating: a decorative wood stove for atmosphere. For cold evenings, radiant heating is more effective.
FAQ
The canvas is water-repellent but not waterproof in the strict sense — light rain is filtered, while heavy rain can seep slightly through the natural canvas. For events at risk of rain, a stretch tent or a marquee offers better protection.
A single tipi (~50 m²) holds up to 40 people at a cocktail or 25-30 for a seated meal. A double (~100 m²) up to 80 people. For large capacities (> 100 people), the triple size or several linked tipis are recommended.
A closed decorative wood stove is possible in some sizes with suitable flue pipework. An open fire is not advised for safety reasons. To be confirmed with the provider beforehand.
With suitable heating and insulating flooring, the tipi can be used in autumn (September-November). In winter, prefer a more thermally enclosed structure (marquee, orangery) unless the cosy, rustic effect is what you are after.
The cost of hiring a tipi depends on the size (single, double, triple or village), the options (wooden flooring, stove or radiant heating, ethnic furniture, string lights), the length of use and the service area. As a guide, the ranges seen in 2026 for a turnkey service run from €2,000 to €4,000 excl. VAT for a single tipi (40-60 guests) to €6,000-10,000 excl. VAT for a double-triple size or a village (100-150 guests), delivery and setup included. Bespoke quote within 24 h.
The tipi creates a bold signature, strongly associated with country and bohemian weddings, with striking photographic perspectives (poles rising above, top opening, soft muted atmosphere). The bamboo marquee is more understated but plays on "eco-luxury" — a noble structure with a worked exposed ceiling, perfect for a wedding that wants to avoid an overly pronounced tipi look while staying in the natural vein. For 60 to 120 guests, both work. Beyond that, the bamboo marquee scales up better.

Our team supports event organisers across France with a complete tent hire offer tipi de réception. The reception tipi offers a circular interior volume, tall poles and a silhouette that is recognisable among all event structures. It is designed for receptions that want an intimate, high-end and very distinctive format: a boho wedding, an open-air drinks reception, a private reception on an estate or in a garden. We operate across the whole country, with teams that can be mobilised quickly to coordinate the setup, the access and the technical equipment. For an outdoor wedding, a corporate cocktail reception or a private reception, we size the structure, the guest flow and the technical options (flooring, lighting, heating, lining) to deliver a result that is durable, clear and consistent with your budget.
Our tipi de réception formats
Our reception tipis are available in several diameters (from 10 m to 18 m), with options for wooden flooring, hanging lighting, garlands, interior dressing and lounge furniture.
The multi-tipi configuration is particularly effective for weddings: a large tipi for the dinner, a smaller one for the drinks or the bar, and a covered transition space.
Every installation is adapted to the ground and the topography to guarantee the stability of the poles and the safety of your guests.
Prices and budget for tipi de réception hire
The price of a tipi depends on its size and the equipment options. A simple configuration (a bare tipi with flooring) remains affordable; a premium configuration with full dressing, lighting and furniture rises significantly.
Multi-tipi configurations are priced on a quote with an overall approach that includes the links between volumes, the access points and the shared equipment.

Setup, installation and logistics for tipi de réception
Our teams handle the installation and delivery across the whole country, with a precise schedule agreed in advance with your reception venue.
Setting up a tipi requires natural ground to anchor the central and perimeter stakes. It is not suited to installation on tarmac without specific groundwork.
The setup time is 4 to 8 hours depending on the size and the options. We carry out a full stability check before opening and provide an on-site presence during the event if needed.
